Background:
The
Middle Tennessee Workforce Investment Board (MTWIB) oversees career
centers in a four county area- including Davidson, Rutherford, Wilson
and Trousdale Counties. In addition to providing the oversight for these
centers, the board is charged with assuring that strategic issues are
also addressed as they relate to workforce development. The MTWIB’s
mission is “to expand the capability and capacity of the workforce
development system through collaboration and innovation and to benefit
and support employees, employers and the regional economy.”
As a result, early in 2005, the board began a series of meetings to
investigate the needs of the educational sector in as much as they
relate to assuring that a sufficient number of potential teachers are
attracted to and pursue the field of teaching.
Based on the information gathered from numerous meetings, the ad hoc
committee of the board has decided to assist the
Tennessee
State Department of Education with the development of a handbook and
adjoining website which would outline some of the important points about
teaching, identify those schools that offer teaching degrees and
delineate the steps needed for those individuals interested in changing
careers and entering the field of teaching.
Goal:
The goal of this initiative is to oversee the development of a
user-friendly booklet and adjoining website that will enable
individuals, at various stages of their career pursuit, to have the
information they need to make an informed decision about their interest
in and pursuit of a career in teaching.
Scope of the Website:
This website will focus on requirements and preparation necessary for
teaching grades K-12 in the middle Tennessee counties- Davidson,
Rutherford, Wilson and Trousdale. Information is made accessible for
that purpose.
