The U.S. and Tennessee Departments of Education, Lipscomb University,
and the Learning Collaborative Inc. have joined efforts and resources to
provide an alternative route to teacher licensure in high-need school
districts across the state. The Transition to Teaching grant
supports eligible colleagues who are enrolled in the following Lipscomb
University programs:

Master of Arts in Special Education (MASE):
Licensure in 12 months,
Degree in 14 months
16 weekend sessions, one month Summer Immersion Institute, 42
credits

Master of Arts in Teaching English Language
Learners (MATELL):
Licensure in 12 months, Degree in 14 months
12 weekend sessions, one month Summer Immersion Institute, 36
credits
Eligible participants receive a
$5,000 tuition award and an additional 26%
tuition discount (Lipscomb In-Service Scholarship for
full-time teachers).
To be eligible for a Transition to Teaching grant award, an applicant
must:

Be employed
within the state of Tennessee in a designated high-need school
district as a full-time teacher on an alternative license;

Be working toward
initial teaching licensure in one of the following high-need
teaching areas: Mathematics, Science, Foreign Language, English
Language Learners (ELL), or Special Education;

Meet admission
requirements for acceptance into the graduate education department
at Lipscomb University;

Make a three year
commitment to teach in a high-need school district in the state of
Tennessee.
